When my dad was diagnosed with his first cancer, he was barely 45 years old. He was a very active person and loved his job as if the company were his own, making every day of his work a new adventure.

Because he was a great employee and because of company policy, they decided to give him an early retirement, so he could focus on treating the cancer and rest.

Many people celebrated and felt happy for him, because when he recovered in a year, he would be able to stay unemployed and focus on resting, traveling, and simply enjoying his life.

However, two years later, when he was healthy and active enough to do whatever he wanted, he chose to pursue a career in education and started teaching, making everyone ask the same question: Why did he return to work if he was already fully retired?

When my dad first retired, he was thrilled about all the free time he would have. He talked about reading all the TV shows he’d never had time for, traveling to places he’d always wanted to visit, and pursuing hobbies he’d put on hold during his working years.
