World leaders offer condolences to Qatar, Türkiye after helicopter crash – Doha News

Governments across the region have expressed condolences to Qatar and Türkiye, highlighting regional solidarity in the wake of the tragedy.

Seven people died on Sunday when a Qatari military helicopter crashed into the country’s territorial waters due to a technical malfunction, prompting condolences from governments across the region and beyond.

Among those killed were members of the Qatari Armed Forces, joint Qatari-Turkish forces, and civilian collaborators, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior confirmed.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, mourned the victims of Sunday’s tragic helicopter crash.

In a post on X, Sheikh Mohammed said: “We mourn with deep sorrow the heroes of our armed forces, their brothers in the Qatar–Türkiye Joint Forces, and the collaborators who were martyred. We ask God to grant them mercy and to protect Qatar and its security. We extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to their families over this painful incident.”

Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also extended condolences, praying for mercy upon the Turkish and Qatari personnel killed in the crash.

“I pray to Allah for mercy upon our heroic soldier, ASELSAN personnel, and our friendly and brotherly Qatari soldiers who were martyred in this tragic accident; I extend my condolences to their families,” said Erdoğan on X. 

Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler expressed condolences, praying for mercy upon the victims and offering sympathy and patience to their families and the nation.

“On behalf of myself and the members of the Ministry of National Defence, I pray to God for mercy upon our heroic martyrs; and I offer my condolences and prayers for patience to their grieving families and our noble nation,” Güler said.

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan offered condolences in a post on his official X account, noting that the crash occurred during a joint training exercise.

“May Allah have mercy on our martyred soldier, our two ASELSAN technicians, and the Qatar Armed Forces personnel in the helicopter crash during training under the Qatar-Türkiye Combined Joint Forces Command. We pray for patience for their families,” said Fidan

ASELSAN, Türkiye’s state defence electronics company, named the three Turkish nationals killed — Major Sinan Taştekin and technicians İsmail Enes Can and Süleyman Cemre Kahraman — and offered condolences to their families and to the Turkish and Qatari Armed Forces.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its official X account that Egypt affirms its solidarity with Qatar and Türkiye during this difficult time, expressing support for the governments and peoples of both countries.

British Ambassador to Qatar Neerav Patel and members of the British Embassy in Doha said they were deeply saddened by the loss of lives.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives, and to the government and people of Qatar and Türkiye. We stand in solidarity with both nations at this difficult time,” the embassy said.

The Embassy of Italy in Doha expressed its condolences for the loss of lives resulting from an helicopter crash. Ambassador Paolo Toschi said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their loved ones and with the authorities of Qatar and Türkiye.”

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has offered its deepest condolences to Qatar and Türkiye following the helicopter crash.

The United Arab Emirates in its official post on x, expressed its solidarity and sincere condolences to Qatar and Türkiye “on the martyrdom of seven individuals following the crash of a helicopter in the territorial waters of the State of Qatar due to a technical malfunction during the performance of a routine duty,” its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its sincerest condolences to the governments and peoples of Qatar and Türkiye, and to the families of those killed.

“The Ministry extends the State of Kuwait’s sincerest condolences to the governments and peoples of the sisterly State of Qatar and the friendly Republic of Türkiye, and to the families of the martyrs,” the statement said.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended its condolences to the families of those killed in the helicopter crash.

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council also offered heartfelt condolences after the helicopter crash in Qatari waters that claimed seven lives.

France’s Ambassador to Qatar Arnaud Pescheux extended condolences to the victims’ families and to the authorities of Qatar and Türkiye, saying France stands with both nations in support of peace and stability.
