According to Instagram, it’s preparing to depart from its end-to-end encryption measures on the platform. This sudden development unveiled on the 13th of March. It was in an Instagram Help Center post, as noted by PiunikaWeb.
The platform announced that the privacy protection measure will soon vanish for users. On the 8th of March, Instagram said E2EE is set to disappear. This is regarding E2EE for messages, meaning all user DMs will lose this useful and valuable privacy feature.

To download chats that may be affected, Instagram offers users a way to do it by displaying instructions on how they can download any media or messages you may want to keep. You may have to update your app to the latest version in case you don’t see any instructions display.
However, Instagram or Meta hasn’t provided more details about this change and users aren’t that happy with this sudden change. PiunikaWeb clocked posts on Reddit and other social media platforms where users are expressing their concern. Though, the publication believes this could be due to changing laws overseas in Europe, where they have been putting pressure on some platforms to review reported DMs.
There’s still a period of two months before this actually arrives on Instagram. Probably Meta will come up with a statement in that regard.
