Kajol’s movie Maa has seen a slower Box Office opening as compared to the original film, Shaitaan. The movie released in the midst of Aamir Khan’s Bollywood comeback film Sitaare Zameen Par still pinning hopes from Box Office numbers. Although the latter has crossed Rs. 100 crore club, Maa has earned a below par Box Office number on day 1 and day 2.
Maa collected 2.23 crore net in Pvr Inox combined and thus collected 4.93 crore net all India. This is below average considering buy two get one ticket free offer was available on day one. Ajay Devgn-R. Madhavan’s Shaitaan made history at the Box Office right from its opening day. The movie had earned Rs. 14.75 crore on day 1 of its release. Maa, on the other hand, has minted only 1/3rd of that.
Film grew on day two by below par 30% and collected 6.75 crore net. Film has two day total of 11.68 crore net and it’s heading for under 20 crore net weekend which is below par. It’s less than 1st weekend of Hollywood release F1 and 2nd weekend of Sitaare Zameen Par.
Nonetheless, Shaitaan was inspired from Janki Bodiwala’s own Gujarati film Vash while Maa promises to be an original story. After averting another clash with Sonakshi Sinha-Paresh Rawal’s Nikita Roy, Maa should earn some sort of numbers at the Box Office despite competition from Sitaare Zameen Par and F1.
