Intel’s New Core Series 3 Chips are Designed for Affordable Computers

Intel recently announced the launch of its new wave of Core Series 3 processors, which the company says are built on the same “Panther Lake” foundation as the flagship Core Ultra Series 3. Built using Intel’s 18A process node, the new chips are designed for use with lower-end hardware.

That being said, Intel does promise a considerable performance leap, albeit with some reservations. When compared to a five-year-old PC, the Intel Core Series 3 can deliver up to a 47% increase in single-thread performance and a 41% boost in multi-thread performance, at least on paper. Intel adds that the architecture provides up to 2.8x better GPU AI performance, making it Intel’s first hybrid AI-ready processor in the standard Core Series, capable of reaching up to 40 platform TOPS.

Additionally, the Series 3 reduces power consumption by up to 64% while delivering 2.1x faster performance compared to the previous-generation Intel Core 7 150U; it also includes support for Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 (R2), and Bluetooth 6.

Consumer and commercial systems powered by Intel Core Series 3 are now shipping major OEM partners, and availability will continue to scale throughout the year, while specialized edge systems are scheduled to hit the market starting in the second quarter of 2026.
