Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sri Ram Sena cite comedian’s past derogatory remarks on Hindu Deities

Bengaluru, Karnataka – The stand-up comedy show of Munawar Faruqui, which was scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on 18 April, has been cancelled following objections raised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sri Ram Sena.
The cancellation came after the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and Sri Ram Sena took a firm stand against the event, and submitted a formal request to the Bengaluru Police, highlighting Faruqui’s history of controversial remarks regarding Hindu Deities. They stated that allowing the show to proceed would not only hurt religious feelings but also pose a threat to the city’s law and order.
Victory to united Hindu strength.

Facing strong and organised opposition, the organisers were forced to call off the show. Mohan Gowda, from Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, celebrated the news on social media, attributing the result to the “united Hindu strength.” He noted that the collective voice of the community successfully ensured that an individual with a track record of anti-Hindu rhetoric was not given a platform in the city.
The controversy surrounding Munawar Faruqui’s shows is not new. In 2021, a case was registered against him in Indore for making highly offensive jokes about Hindu Gods and the Union Home Minister, following which he was arrested and later granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Since then, several of his performances across cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have faced objections and cancellations, with local groups and Hindu organisations repeatedly raising concerns over the content of his shows.
