If you’re tired of waiting for Red Dead Redemption 3, you can get your fix with an upcoming Steam game right now. Ever since Red Dead Redemption 2 came out in 2018, fans have been hoping for a followup. Recently, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser teased that the studio might turn their attention to a third game for the franchise, once GTA 6 is out of the way.
This is both great and terrible news. On one hand, it means that Red Dead Redemption 3 will probably happen sometime in the future. On the other hand, GTA 6 isn’t scheduled for release until November 19, 2026. If Rockstar doesn’t begin development on the game until then, it might be years before we see a glimpse of the beloved open-world Western RPG.
In the meantime, another Western game prepares to launch on Steam that might hit the spot while you wait. Frontier Legends by Neojac Entertainment Inc. is an upcoming Western RPG with strong Red Dead Redemption influences.
Like the RDR games, Frontier Legends is an open-world adventure game set in the Wild, Wild West. Explore the mysteries of the American Frontier, meet people with interesting stories, tame and ride wild horses, and forge a story for your character depending on their actions.
Besides all this, Frontier Legends also has a survival and base-building aspect. You can create your own town and watch it grow and thrive. As you expand, NPCs with distinct jobs will move in and form a settlement full of life. How well the town does depends entirely on your leadership skills: if you neglect your town, the wilderness will reclaim its space.
The game has plenty of other features to explore, including a day-night cycle, dynamic weather, resource management, and dangers in the form of outlaws and the wilderness.
Frontier Legends has no release date yet, but it plans to enter Early Access soon. It’s also available to Wishlist on Steam right now. While you wait for the title to launch, you can give it a hands-on try. A demo of Frontier Legends is available to download and play for free.
The demo has been available for a few months now, and developer Neojac Entertainment Inc. is actively using player feedback to improve the game.
