The Hollywood Reporter can unveil an exclusive first clip of Leah Nelson’s Cannes-bound Tangles, boasting a star-spangled lineup that includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Abbi Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein and Seth Rogen.
Also featuring Samira Wiley, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon and Fern Grandin, the feature focuses on Sarah, who has left her exciting life as an activist and artist in ’90s San Francisco to return to the small, conservative hometown she fled when Alzheimer’s begins to erode her mother’s vibrant personality.
Forced to grow up quickly, Sarah juggles a new relationship, long-held career ambitions, and an eccentric family she literally follows to Mexico and back in a last-ditch effort to make them take the situation seriously. Confronting a disorienting reality she can’t control, Sarah must find her footing — learning to accept her mother’s decline and the imperfect beauty of her family — in order to become the daughter they need. The newly-released clip, which you can watch below, shows the harrowing first moments the family learns of the diagnosis.
Written by Nelson with Sarah Leavitt and Trev Renney, Tangles is produced by Monarch Media, Point Grey Pictures, Giant Ant Films, LYLAS Pictures. It’ll receive a special screening on the Croisette on Thursday, with some A-list cast members in attendance.
Also on Thursday, Louis-Dreyfus is set to record a live episode of THR‘s Awards Chatter podcast in Cannes. The legendary actress will sit down with Scott Feinberg at Meta House, Meta’s exclusive activation space along the Croisette, for an hour-long career retrospective interview, followed by a reception.
UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are handling domestic sales on Tangles, while Charades handles international sales.
