Qatar reaffirmed its support for Palestinians at the Taawon Foundation’s annual meeting, highlighting aid for Gaza’s wounded and orphans while backing a two-state solution.

Qatar has reaffirmed its continued support for the Palestinian people during the annual general assembly meeting of the Taawon Foundation, stressing its commitment to Palestinian statehood and humanitarian assistance amid Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.

The meeting was held virtually on Saturday, with Qatar represented by Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

In remarks delivered during the meeting, Al-Misnad highlighted directives issued by Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in 2023 to provide treatment for 1,500 wounded Palestinians and sponsor 3,000 orphans from Gaza.

She said Qatar remained committed to supporting Palestinians through its institutions and international engagement, while working to strengthen Palestinian resilience and preserve national unity.

Al-Misnad described the Palestinian cause as the “central issue” of the Arab and Islamic worlds, reiterating Qatar’s support for a two-state solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

She also called for guaranteeing the right of return for Palestinian refugees in line with international law and UN resolutions.

“Despite the ongoing aggression and displacement in the Gaza Strip, and the practices targeting Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank aimed at changing realities on the ground and eliminating peaceful solutions, Qatar’s position remains firm in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” Al-Misnad said.

The minister added that Qatar would continue supporting the most affected groups in Palestine, including children, women, the sick, elderly people and persons with disabilities.

She also highlighted cooperation between Qatari institutions, particularly the Qatar Fund for Development, and the Taawon Foundation since 2015, especially in the field of orphan care.

Founded more than four decades ago, the Taawon Foundation is a Palestinian development organisation focused on education, culture, welfare and civil society initiatives for Palestinians in the occupied territories and diaspora communities.
