Varun Dhawan’s big rom-com trailer moment is back on the calendar. After a sudden cancellation yesterday that left fans and media waiting at a Mumbai theatre, the trailer of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will now be launched tomorrow, May 23, bringing the film’s campaign back into motion just ahead of its theatrical release.
The aborted event had become a talking point almost instantly. The red carpet was ready, attendees had reached PVR ICON in Andheri, and the team was expected to unveil the trailer when producer Ramesh Taurani arrived and informed those present that the screening could not go ahead because of a “technical glitch.” The media and fans were also told that they would be invited again for a special screening within the next two to three days.
Trailer Launch Now Set For Tomorrow
The makers have now moved quickly to reset the promotional rhythm of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The trailer launch taking place tomorrow is important for the film, which is being positioned as a glossy David Dhawan entertainer led by Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur.
The cancellation also unfolded against a wider conversation around a music rights dispute.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is directed by David Dhawan and produced by Ramesh Taurani. The film features Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles, with Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Sheirgill, Mouni Roy, Kubbra Sait and Chunky Panday also part of the ensemble.
The film has been designed as a light-hearted romantic comedy with family-entertainer energy. Its teaser introduced Varun as Jass, Mrunal as Baani and Pooja as Preet, hinting at a chaotic relationship setup packed with music, confusion and David Dhawan’s trademark comic timing.
The makers had earlier addressed chatter about the film being similar to another David Dhawan comedy, stating, “It has come to our attention that there are discussions in the trade and amongst the public regarding our film, “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai” Tips, Ramesh Taurani Ji, David Dhawan Ji, along with the cast and crew, would like to clarify that the film is an original story and screenplay and bears no resemblance to any other film. We have poured our hearts into making this Film and sincerely look forward to welcoming audiences to cinemas on 5th June for a fun-filled family experience.”
Varun Dhawan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Varun Dhawan’s recent phase has moved across theatrical entertainers and streaming projects. He appeared in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari in 2025 with Janhvi Kapoor and featured in the action drama Baby John in 2024 with Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. On OTT, he led Citadel: Honey Bunny on Amazon Prime Video in 2024 opposite Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
His confirmed 2026 slate includes Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Border 2, in which he stars with Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
