Google unveils a totally customizable multiview in YouTube TV as well as tests new YouTube live ads. There’s the possibility that users are aware that the platform already has a Multiview feature that permits viewing two, three or even four channels at the same time. This is because, apart from brain-rot optimisation, there are other cases, like during a busy sports season when you want to watch many matches at the same time.

Google knew about the typical case and originally launched Multiview through suggested Multiview setups that the platform curated automatically for the user. But now, users have begun seeing a completely customizable version of the feature. You can just choose the streams yourself.
There’s likely a technical reason behind it. This will depend on how transmission and decoding/playback of multiple simultaneous streams are handled by the server.
Nevertheless, the feature is now evident there. It’s not tied to any exact app version and is a server-side release. It’s expected to show up on the devices before long.
Moreso, the other YouTube-related feature that has been showing up recently affects YouTube live streams as well as the way they’re monetised through ads. YouTube live streams on TV or desktop reveal what Google refers to as “side-by-side” ads. They appear alongside the live stream at the bottom of the screen. You can just mute its audio for the duration of the ad, instead of stopping it.
Additionally, it enables you to stay tuned in to the action in some capacity. This all depends on the content you’re watching. Though it doesn’t work in some cases. Without audio, there’s the likelihood you won’t be able to watch the stream at all. According to Google, it has begun experimenting with the “side-by-side” ad format on mobile as well, so we’re expecting that soon.
