ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Jul, 2025) The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two of its own officers in connection with the illegal issuance of e-visas to Afghan nationals, marking a significant step in the agency’s internal accountability drive. Acting on the directives of FIA Director General Rifaat Mukhtar, the Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad launched a targeted operation resulting in the arrest of Sub-Inspector Waseem Ahmed and Constable Aqib Mehmood.

Both officers were posted at the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Islamabad and are accused of demanding a Rs 2 million bribe from a suspect, Zubair Ahmad, during his physical remand. In exchange, they allegedly promised to facilitate him and ensure his transfer to judicial remand.

Following the arrests, a four-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been formed under the leadership of Assistant Director Nauman Khalil to conduct a transparent and thorough inquiry.

Other members of the JIT include Sub-Inspector Shams Khan, Sub-Inspector Shehryar, and Constable Mehdi.

The scandal is part of a broader investigation into a gang involved in the illegal issuance of e-visas to Afghan citizens. So far, six individuals — Abdul Aziz, Ahmad Sakhi, Atif Ahmad, Nadir Raheem Abbasi, Ibrar Ahmad, and Zubair Ahmad — have been arrested in connection with the case.

DG FIA Rifaat Mukhtar emphasized that the agency is committed to rooting out corruption within its ranks. “Internal accountability is essential to eliminating human trafficking and corruption. Those involved in illegal activities will face strict consequences,” he said.

The FIA’s firm stance signals a renewed commitment to transparency and integrity within the organization, with the spokesperson reiterating that no one involved in corruption will be spared.
