The long-awaited collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail and Fate UBW is finally kicking off on July 11, 2025, bringing a complete story event to the turn-based space RPG alongside playable characters Saber and Archer. Though both will be available on a time-limited banner running for several versions, players can get one copy of Archer for free once the collaboration is live.

To sweeten the waiting time a little bit, HoYoverse has released a short mockumentary about the collaboration on YouTube. Referencing Fate’s central theme, the Holy Grail War, the short film is pitting seven staff members against each other in a fight to find the best inspiration to drive the creation of this high profile collaboration.

In typical HSR fashion, things get pretty wild almost right from the start, as staff members eat magic mushrooms and get arrested for plotting to get rid of their colleagues.

The team also proved its unbound passion for Fate by referencing one of its greatest memes of all time, an iconic bootleg figurine of Saber the community dubbed Sader — as HSR lead designer Chengnan An told DBLTAP in a past interview, the team is filled with fans of the IP.

Kinoko Nasu, the creator of Fate, also appears in the video, calling it “one wildly unhinged documentary.”

“Everything along the way was completely off the rails, and yet somehow the final product turned out strangely accurate. I honestly don’t even know how to feel about that. Sure, the film exaggerated a few things. But the real production process wasn’t any easier compared to this. To the team that powered through all that madness, you have my deepest respect and sincere approval. And I hope every player out there enjoys this crossover,” Nasu added.
