into the unwell release date delayed to 2027 as development plans shift

Coffee Stain Publishing and developer She Was Such A Good Horse have revealed an Into the Unwell release date delay, with a change to the game’s Early Access plans and a new trailer also revealed.

The ‘Whack N’ Slash’ roguelike action game will be pushed to a 2027 release window, and the planned 2026 Early Access launch will be scrapped entirely in favour of a full release.

The game sees up to three players unite as rubber hose-style cartoon misfits in a heavily medicated fever dream romp.

In a press release, the developer constructs an absurd, but amusing, excuse for the game’s delay, which involves an accident involving drink cans and bubblegum during Swedish holiday festivities.

You can see how the delay (supposedly) came about in a new documentary trailer.

Into The Unwell Documentary Trailer Amusingly Explains Release Date Delay

A tongue-in-cheek quote from the Creative Director, Mårten Stockhaus, explains the delay.

“Våffeldagen is one of the most important holidays in Sweden. But since we’re not that great at cleaning, I tripped on the massive pile of beer cans left after the festivities. Smashing the Early Access disc in the fall”

Thankfully, the gaffe was fairly easy to recover from.

“The good news is that Coffee Stain is paying us to glue the disc back together! Also, I’m fine by the way, thanks for asking. So anyway, full release sometime in 2027. Like every dev crew running on dreams and a healthy amount of audacity, we’re hell-bent on dropping a full game that’s as good as we can possibly make it when we actually launch.”

If you aren’t sure if Våffeldagen is a real holiday or what it’s even celebrating, you can learn more here.

While the delay is naturally a bit disappointing, publisher Coffee Stain does have another game out a bit sooner, with Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core arriving this week.
