Call of Juarez could be making a comeback

The last installment of the Wild West shooters was released in 2013, but according to a report, Call of Juarez could be making a comeback.

Twelve years ago, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger&nbsp&nbspthe fourth and, for the time being, last installment in the Italian Western-style shooter series was released. Developer Techland secured the rights from Ubisoft for distribution in 2018, but since then it has been quiet around the series about smoking guns and lunchtime duels.

(Re-)Call of Juarez

According to a report from Insider Gaming a new installment in the series is said to be in the works at Techland. According to the sources, the sequel has been in development for some time.

There are no details about the project yet, with one exception. Techland is said to have abandoned its in-house Chrome Engine, at least in the case of Call of Juarez.

The studio uses the Chrome Engine for the Dying Light and Dead Island series. However, the Unreal Engine is to be used for the sequel to the western shooter.

Difficulties with the engine change

Two unknown projects have just been shelved at Techland. One of these games is said to be the 2022 announced action role-playing game with an open world and fantasy setting.

Under the working title Cornerstone, a game with strong influences from the Star Wars universe is said to have been in development. Players were to be able to use something like the Force to move objects or stop time.

According to Insider Gaming’s sources, the project failed due to poor management decisions, including the switch to the Unreal Engine.

It is not known whether this will now also be the downfall of a potential new Call of Juarez. Please note that none of this information has yet been confirmed by developer Techland.

Next up for the studio is the release of Dying Light: The Beast. The standalone spin-off of the horror series will be released on August 22, 2025 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X & S.
