Renesas Electronics Corporation has introduced the RA2T1 group of microcontrollers (MCUs), designed for efficient single-motor control in appliances such as fans, power tools, vacuum cleaners, printers, and more. Built on a 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M23 core, the MCUs combine precise motor control, integrated safety features, and broad software support to help developers speed up product design.
Key motor control features include a 3-channel sample-and-hold (S&H) function that reads 3-phase current values of BLDC motors simultaneously, enabling more accurate control than sequential sampling. The MCUs also offer complementary PWM with automatic dead-time insertion and asymmetric PWM generation, improving performance in inverter drive applications.
To enhance system safety, the RA2T1 provides a Port Output Enable function and high-speed comparators that can instantly shut off PWM signals when overcurrent conditions are detected. These safety responses are configurable based on the inverter’s requirements.
The MCU is supported by Renesas’ Flexible Software Package (FSP), which includes middleware, peripheral drivers, multiple RTOS options, and reference software for motor control, AI, and cloud connectivity. FSP enables code reuse, supports legacy integration, and simplifies migration across the RA MCU family.
