The Divine Journey of Arjuna
During his pilgrimage, Arjuna reached this sacred region after a long and exhausting journey. Parched with thirst, he searched desperately for water but found none. The land appeared dry and unyielding. Nearby, he saw Sage Agastya immersed in deep penance. Hoping for relief, Arjuna approached the sage, only to discover that even the sage’s kamandalam had run dry.
Sage Agastya immediately understood that this was the divine play of Lord Krishna. He instructed Arjuna to pray to his beloved Lord with complete surrender. Obeying the sage, Arjuna meditated upon Krishna with devotion. In response, the Lord appeared before him as Parthasarathy, radiant and compassionate. He gifted Arjuna a divine sword and instructed him to strike the earth.
When Arjuna obeyed, water gushed forth miraculously from the ground. This sacred water body came to be known as Katka Pushkarani, located south of the temple. The event symbolized that divine grace flows wherever sincere devotion exists. To commemorate this divine act, Arjuna is eternally depicted here holding a sword, reminding devotees of faith, obedience, and divine intervention.
