Publisher DreadXP and solo developer Vincent Adinolfi today announced that psychological horror thriller Heartworm has locked in its release date to July 31, 2025, when it launches on PC via Steam.

Channeling the spirit, atmosphere, and visuals of survival horror classics such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Heartworm also adds modern gameplay options to the familiar formula loved by subgenre fans.

Psychological Horror Thriller Heartworm Gets Late July Release Date

The title follows protagonist Sam, a young woman overcome with grief after her grandfather’s passing. Seeking closure, she takes to a plethora of online forums that end up guiding her to a remote haunted house in the mountains.

Born from desperation, her journey “quickly spirals into something more sinister and inexplicable,” as she ventures into the unknown relying on just her camera and determination to protect and guide her forward.

Heartworm tells its story through both pre-rendered and in-game cutscenes. Exploring the entire haunted house requires solving a variety of different puzzles as well as engaging in “limited but meaningful tense combat” sequences during which Sam uses her camera to fend off otherworldly opponents.

Optional tank controls, PSX-style visuals, and retro effects promise a nostalgia-filled journey, but those seeking a more modern experience can tone down these settings. The title launches with 4 to 6 hours of gameplay alongside multiple endings to Sam’s story.

If some old-school spooks sound like an excellent option to weather this summer’s high temperatures and video game release drought, you can follow Heartworm on Steam and even try its demo ahead of its release at the end of the month.
