Qatar Youth Hostels launched the second edition of the “Google Local Guide” competition, which aims at encouraging individuals to explore and document local landmarks.
Qatar Youth Hostels is a non-profit organisation affiliated with the Ministry of Sports and Youth dedicated to raising community awareness, promoting youth tourism and encouraging cultural exchange.
The latest competition supports the entity’s mission, where participants can join by documenting their experiences at restaurants, cafes and shops on Google Maps. This will further contribute to enriching Qatar’s digital content through the Google Maps platform.
“If you love exploring, photography, and sharing unique places, this is your chance to showcase your talent and compete for valuable prizes,” the organisers said on Tuesday.
Registration is open between 15-22 April for two different age categories, both males and females, including 13-17 years and 18-39 years. The top three winners will be receiving prizes and special awards.
The prizes for the both categories start at QAR 7,500 for first place, QAR 6,000 for second place, and QAR 5,000 for third place.
There will also be a QAR 4,000 for the person who captured most photos and the person who added new locations as well as a QAR 2,000 prize for documenting sustainable prize.

Registration can be done via the online form available or by scanning the QR code shared by the Qatar Youth Hostels on its social media pages.
