A new agreement between Qatar, Egypt and ExxonMobil will explore the development of Cypriot gas discoveries through Egypt’s LNG infrastructure.
QatarEnergy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Egypt and ExxonMobil aimed at advancing natural gas development in the Eastern Mediterranean through Egypt’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure.
The agreement is expected to support the commercialisation of gas discoveries offshore Cyprus by utilising Egypt’s existing export facilities and strategic regional position.
The memorandum is expected to allow for the exploration of future growth opportunities and flexible commercial frameworks to meet both domestic and international energy demand, while strengthening regional integration in the gas sector.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi described the agreement as “an important step in strengthening regional energy cooperation across the Eastern Mediterranean by unlocking the long-term commercial potential of natural gas resources in the region.”
“We look forward to close cooperation with the Egyptian government and our strategic partner ExxonMobil to achieve the objectives of this memorandum in a way that serves the interests of all parties,” Al-Kaabi added.
Officials said the initiative also reinforces Egypt’s role as a potential regional gas hub and reflects a shared commitment to developing commercially sustainable energy solutions amid growing regional and global demand.
The agreement is expected to contribute to broader regional energy cooperation, infrastructure integration, and diversification of supply sources for international markets.
