While we often think of Selena Gomez as the founder of one of our tried-and-true beauty brands today, it’s hard to forget the amount of lives the actress, singer and former Disney kid has lived in her three decades of life. From the Wizards of Waverly Place days to Only Murders in the Building and now in her wifey and CEO era, Selena Gomez can truly do it all, and she looks great doing it. To celebrate our resident beauty guru and Taco Bell lover’s 33rd birthday, we rounded up some of her best beauty advice from over the years.

A Good Mani Is Non-Negotiable

Of all the celebrities who have served us manicure inspiration over the years, Gomez has easily been the most consistent yet out-of-the-box nail icons of the last several years. So, if there’s anything we can take from the busy bee beauty founder, it’s that you’re never too swamped for a good manicure. Whether you opt for her classic soap nail look, a deep merlot or one of her more vibrant, beachy styles, Gomez is an advocate for nail care as self care, and having a bestie like Tom Bachik doesn’t hurt, I’m sure.

Don’t Be Afraid to Switch Up Your ‘Do

We’ll never forget the iconic 2010s video of Gomez talking about her blue streaks for the Teen Vogue party, but in all seriousness, Gomez’s willingness to try something new—especially with her hair—has been part of her personal beauty brand from the jump. Whether she’s showing off her natural texture on Instagram or swapping her lengthy strands for a chic, professional bob, Gomez’ hair versatility is something we can all learn from.

Splurge on Skin Care

While Gomez’ own brand, Rare Beauty, is known for its relatively affordable price range and efficacious makeup and body products, Gomez’s TikTok account has given us insight into the brands she personally turns to for her skin care, and the message is clear: if you’re going to splurge, splurge on your skin. In a 2023 TikTok, Gomez had fans in awe as she showed off her unconventional yet luxe skin-care routine, which started with La Mer’s The Concentrate ($600) to remove her makeup. While she also opts for budget-friendly options like Garnier’s Micellar Water ($12), several other high-end products made her TikTok skin-care routine, like La Mer’s Renewal Oil ($295) and Tatcha’s The Water Cream ($72), all proving that she advocates for the power of high-end skin care.

There’s Nothing Wrong With a Little Botox!

Gomez is no stranger to online hate, and while she’s usually quick to ignore the haters and keep doing her, she’s also not afraid of a healthy clapback here and there. It was via a cheeky internet remark that we got our first glimpse into her cosmetic treatment regimen. Gomez took to her Instagram comments to shut down trolls claiming she needs to, “Remove your cheek fillers/implants. It’s messing with your brain,” responding with a short and sweet, “Hahahaha I’ve had Botox bb girl.”

Don’t Take Yourself—or Your Makeup—Too Seriously

Ever since Gomez went public with her relationship with now fiancé, Benny Blanco, we’ve gotten to see a silly, bubbly, loved-up side of the singer/actress, and we can’t get enough. Lucky for us, one of the pair’s most noteworthy internet appearances had to do with beauty, as Gomez took to TikTok to let Blanco attempt to do her makeup, and the result was laugh-out-loud funny. While Blanco might not be an expert MUA, the message was clear: beauty can be fun, so let it be!
