Supernova (formerly Super Smash Con) is returning this summer after the Super Smash Bros. community was left wondering if 2025 was the last year.
The FGC was left heartbroken after it was announced that the Dulles Expo Center, Supernova’s long-time home, would be made into an IKEA. Luckily, Supernova is back, and it’s even bigger than ever. The largest Smash tournament in the world is coming from August 6th to 9th.
And this time, it’s being held at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Supernova 2026 features more stuff than ever
To celebrate its even larger home, Supernova is adding many new events for the Smash community. As always, there will be a Super Smash Bros. Melee major and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major, along with tourneys for Smash 64, Brawl, and Wii U. The best players from all over the world will be there since this is one of the more prestigious Smash destinations.
Supernova is also home to The Smashies, a Smash-themed award show, and the iconic Combo Contest, which tests players’ creativity and talent in Smash 64 (it’s one of my favorite parts of the weekend).
This year, Supernova is adding a lot of new activities and events since there is twice the space:
- Mario Kart Gauntlet Tournament
- Free Throw Contest (yes, basketball, with $10,000 in prizes)
- Expanded trading card game and tabletop sections
- Panels and workshops
- Retro gaming area
For the first time ever, Supernova is also presenting: Liftoff. This is a cosmic music experience that looks like an EDM concert. This will likely take place Saturday night and require extra tickets, but I’m not sure yet.
Registration is opening May 1st!
