TikTok now offers a paid ad-free experience. The social media platform announced a £3.99 subscription service in the UK that will be available in the coming months for users aged 18 or older. The subscription not only removes ads in the app, but also prevents user data from being used for advertising purposes. Users can still continue to use TikTok for free with personalised ads.

TikTok isn’t the only social platform with ad-free subscription. Facebook and Instagram also have ad-free subscription tiers in the UK and other regions with the same basic model of preventing user data from being used for marketing-related uses. UK’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law prevents companies from collecting user data without consent from users, and TikTok’s ad-free tiers keep this in mind.
