Disney Lorcana: Wilds Unknown Review

Almost three years after its original launch, Disney Lorcana is entering an exciting new era. Set 12, or Wilds Unknown, introduces Pixar characters, locations, and more to the popular trading card game from Ravensburger. A new Illumineer’s Trove and 2-Player Starter Set are among the products releasing in May, and ahead of Wilds Unknown‘s official start, ScreenRant got an early look at some of the products and cards.

Pre-release for Wilds Unknown begins on May 8, 2026, with the full global release beginning May 15. As usual, pre-release events are at Disney Parks and registered local hobby stores. New Prelease Boxes, which can only be obtained by attending a pre-release event, also help ring in the new era of Disney Lorcana.

These boxes come with 6 booster packs, 1 of 3 themed postcards, a paper deck box, 4 damage dice, a rules sheet, and 1 of 6 new promo cards. If you miss out on the Prerelease Box, the Illumineer’s Trove and Booster Display Boxes, as well as the 2-Player Starter Set, will be available once the set fully launches.

Pixar Cards Have Finally Arrived In Disney Lorcana

Wilds Unknowns pushes Disney Lorcana into new territory as Illumineers and glimmers explore the untamed wilds. Even if you don’t know the full story of Disney Lorcana, this means numerous characters sport new looks that go with that theme of discovery and adventure. There are some familiar faces in this new set, including mainstays like Ariel and Maleficent, but the biggest new addition is, of course, the new Pixar IPs that have arrived in the TCG.

Woody and Buzz, who are featured on the Illumineer’s Trove and Prerelease Box, should give you an idea of what to expect here. There are a ton of new Toy Story cards to collect and play, including a pretty cool “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” Enchanted. Cards focused on Pixar movies like The Incredibles and Brave are also numerous in Wilds Unknown, so expect to see plenty of Merida and the Incredibles family as you open booster packs.

There are some really awesome Pixar cards in Wilds Unknown. Honestly, they’re some of the coolest Disney Lorcana cards I’ve seen, and I’ve been playing since The First Chapter. Standouts include “Buzz Lightyear – Jungle Ranger” and the “Frozone – Super Cool” Enchanteds. Even some of the more common cards featuring Woody, Mrs. Incredible, and Merida have great artwork and come with some fun abilities.

Whether you lean more toward the collector side for Disney Lorcana, or prefer competitive play, there’s a little something for you with Wilds Unknown. A new 2-Player Starter Set is a perfect way to learn how to play Disney Lorcana with a friend, offering two decks, rules, and everything else you need.

As usual with Disney Lorcana, however, my eyes have been on the latest Illumineer’s Trove. The Wilds Unknown Illumineer’s Trove comes with all of the following:

  • 1 Lore counter
  • 6 Damage-counter dice
  • 6 Card dividers
  • 8 Booster packs (which include 12 randomized cards each)

It all comes inside a decorative storage box that features Pixar and Disney characters. The card dividers feature Woody, Buzz, Mrs. Incredible, Gadget (from Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers), Merida, and Audrey Ramirez (from Atlantis: The Lost Empire) on them. The booster packs feature Woody, Merida, and Gadget.

The dice, like the storage box and booster packs, are primarily amber, but the numbers and symbols on the dice are more of a lime green. The Lore counter in the Illumineer’s Trove features Woody and Buzz.

Disney Lorcana Heads Into Exciting New Territories

Because Wilds Unknown is taking Illumineers into new realms, expect to see primarily three biomes. There’s the jungle, Wilderknot, the mountain range known as the Torchlight Peaks, and a desert landscape called the Great Empty Sea. You can expect to see various Disney and Pixar characters in these biomes and interacting with their environments.

Of course, Wilds Unknown also pushes Disney Lorcana into new realms with its introduction of Pixar cards. While this doesn’t feel like an entire reset of the TCG, it does feel like a watershed moment for it. Pixar has some of the most memorable movies and characters out there, so it’s great to see these inclusions in Disney Lorcana now. And the trend will continue when Attack Of The Vine! drops later this summer with Monsters Inc. taking front and center.

There have been a lot of great Disney Lorcana sets since The First Chapter, but Wilds Unknown might just be the best one yet.

Wilds Unknown may feature some powerful new cards, but it also stands out because of its artwork. This is the coolest some of these characters have ever looked, and there are four panorama card artworks to find and collect. So, while finally getting Pixar cards for the first time is great, it’s also nice to see Disney Lorcana continuing to try other new things.

There have been a lot of great Disney Lorcana sets since The First Chapter, but Wilds Unknown might just be the best one yet. From mechanics and artwork, to new characters, Songs, and Location cards, there’s just so much to love here. If you’ve been away from the TCG for a while, now is the perfect time to jump back in. And if you’ve never played Disney Lorcana before, there’s no better time than now.
