Google made an announcement at its I/O conference regarding a significant upgrade to the search box in over 25 years. The development is that it’s now AI-powered.
One year after its release, AI Mode received above one billion monthly users. As it is now, Google Search is upgraded with the Gemini 3.5 Flash model as the new default model worldwide. Google complemented this by upgrading the search box with AI. According to the company, it expands to give you space to describe clearly what you want. It waits for your intent and helps formulate questions with AI-powered suggestions.

Furthermore, it allows you search using text, images, files and videos (Chrome tabs can also be inputs). The intelligent search box is rolling out in all countries and languages where AI Mode is available. With this on ground, it’s very convenient to ask follow-up questions from an AI Overview, then still go into a conversational back-and-forth with AI Mode. The good news is that this experience is now available across desktop and mobile, globally.
Moreover, search agents will release for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer. They will function in the background 24/7 to search what you need then keep you updated on what matters most.
Then again, this summer in the US, agentic booking capabilities are expanding to support a wide range of new tasks. These involve local experiences and services. Google can as well call businesses on your behalf, for select categories such as home repair, beauty, et cerera.
Additionally, Personal Intelligence in AI Mode is expanding to more people in about 200 countries/territories in 98 languages. It doesn’t require any subscription. As it’s now, you can connect Gmail as well as Google Photos.
