Need a New Game Controller? Valve’s Steam Controller Goes on Sale this May

Back in late 2025, Valve announced that it was working on its upcoming dedicated gaming hardware ecosystem, which centres around the Steam Machine, a home console that’s designed to run PC games, with some pretty serious horsepower as well. While we’re still waiting for the console to launch, it looks like we’ll be getting the Steam Controller soon.

According to Valve, the Steam Controller will be available for $99 bucks (£85 in the UK), and will be available for purchase starting on May 4th, at 10:00 AM PT. It isn’t Valve’s first controller by any means, although it does come with some hardware improvements, such as magnetic thumbsticks with TMR sensors, HD haptics, capacitive touch inputs, assignable grip buttons, and gyro support.

As for battery life, the device can charge via USB-C, and can last for up to 35 hours with each charge, though of course real-world usage will definitely vary. The Steam Controller will also be able to work with Windows PCs, Steam Deck, as well as other Steam hardware. While it will go on sale earlier than the Steam Machine, Valve will of course sell it bundled with the console once the latter hits the market.
