Suriya has found the big-screen surge he needed, and Karuppu is turning that momentum into a major worldwide story. After a powerful opening week, the RJ Balaji directorial held enough ground through its second weekend to push the actor into a new box office zone, with the film now standing close to the Rs 240 crore global mark.
Karuppu Crosses Usd 7 Million Overseas
After 10 days in cinemas, Karuppu has collected approximately USD 7 million overseas, which converts to around Rs 67 crore. The film added about USD 1.30 million in its second weekend internationally, following the usual front-loaded trend seen with several big Tamil releases.
The India gross stands at approximately Rs 171.25 crore, taking the worldwide total to around Rs 238 crore. The film also crossed Rs 200 crore worldwide on Saturday, making it the first Suriya film to enter that club.
Among overseas territories, Malaysia has been the standout market with around USD 2.1 million, followed by the Middle East at approximately USD 1.45 million. The United States has contributed close to USD 925,000, while the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand have also added meaningful numbers to the film’s global run.

Karuppu is a 2026 Tamil fantasy action drama directed by RJ Balaji and produced by S. R. Prabhu and S. R. Prakash Babu under Dream Warrior Pictures. The film stars Suriya, Trisha Krishnan and RJ Balaji, with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada and Supreeth Reddy in key roles.
The film follows a guardian deity who takes on a human form as a lawyer to fight corruption within a legal system that exploits a young girl awaiting a liver transplant. With its mix of courtroom drama, fantasy and mass action, Karuppu has emerged as Suriya’s strongest commercial performer in years and is already a major Tamil box office success of 2026.
Suriya’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Suriya’s recent theatrical phase has been closely watched. He appeared in a cameo in the Hindi film Sarfira in 2024 and then led the big-scale Tamil release Kanguva the same year. In 2025, he starred in Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, before returning in 2026 with Karuppu, which has now given him his biggest worldwide box office milestone.
Before this run, Suriya had also earned wide acclaim through the direct-to-streaming releases Soorarai Pottru in 2020 and Jai Bhim in 2021, both of which strengthened his reputation as an actor willing to balance star power with socially resonant storytelling.
His announced upcoming slate includes Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri and co-starring Mamitha Baiju.
